Cold stiffens the grease, steel contracts, and the door that closed fine in October starts reversing in January. Most of our winter calls are not mysteries. They are the same handful of cold-weather failures, and we carry the parts for them.
The car brings road salt into the garage every day from November to March. It drips onto the slab, sits under the bottom seal, and works into the rollers, hinges and the bottom of the track. Hardware that would last fifteen years somewhere dry starts binding here in seven or eight. We check for it on every visit, because a seized roller is what puts a door off its track.
A door that is fifteen years old and running badly usually needs rollers, hinges and a seal, not four thousand dollars of new steel. We will say so. When the panels really are past saving, we will say that too, and show you what we are looking at rather than asking you to take it on faith.

Usually not, and in winter it is often not a fault at all. Cold makes the safety sensors drift out of alignment, and packed snow or an ice ridge under the door will trip the reversing mechanism exactly the way an obstruction should. Sensor realignment and clearing the threshold are quick. If the door reverses on a clear, dry threshold, that points at the travel limits or a worn part, which is a different conversation.
Please do not. Forcing a frozen door is the single most expensive winter mistake we see. The bottom seal is stuck in ice, the opener pulls anyway, and something has to give: the seal tears off, the bottom bracket bends, or a cable jumps its drum.
