Garage Door Services

Every repair a garage door needs in a lake-effect winter, plus straight advice on when a repair beats a replacement. Springs, openers, cables, off-track doors, frozen doors and seals, tune-ups and full installations.

Why West Michigan Homeowners Call Us

Winter Is the Whole Job Here

Grand Rapids sits in the lake-effect belt, and the garage door is the largest moving thing on the house. Cold stiffens the grease, steel contracts, and the door that closed fine in October starts reversing in January. Most of our winter calls are not mysteries. They are the same handful of cold-weather failures, and we carry the parts for them.

Salt Is the Slow Killer

The car brings road salt into the garage every day from November to March. It drips onto the slab, sits under the bottom seal, and works into the rollers, hinges and the bottom of the track. Hardware that would last fifteen years somewhere dry starts binding here in seven or eight. We check for it on every visit, because a seized roller is what puts a door off its track.

We Tell You When Not to Replace

A door that is fifteen years old and running badly usually needs rollers, hinges and a seal, not four thousand dollars of new steel. We will say so. When the panels really are past saving, we will say that too, and show you what we are looking at rather than asking you to take it on faith.

How It Works

1

Call or request service

Tell us what the door is doing. A door stuck open in January, a car trapped inside, or a door that will not seal are the ones we push to the front of the day.

2

We give you a range on the phone

Before anyone drives out. Most garage door repairs land in a narrow band, and we would rather you knew it up front than found out in your driveway.

3

Diagnosis on site, price before work

The technician checks the springs, cables, rollers, track and opener as one system, then gives you a firm number. Nothing gets done before you agree to it.

4

Fixed, tested, and left working

The door gets cycled and balanced before we leave, and you get told plainly what is worn but not yet urgent, so nothing arrives as a surprise next winter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How fast can you get to my house in Grand Rapids?

Same-day is the standard target across Kent County and the Ottawa County suburbs. A door stuck open in winter, or a car trapped behind a dead door, gets moved up the schedule. Call and we will tell you honestly what time we can be there rather than promising a window we cannot hold.

My door will not close all the way and reverses. Is that a big repair?

Usually not, and in winter it is often not a fault at all. Cold makes the safety sensors drift out of alignment, and packed snow or an ice ridge under the door will trip the reversing mechanism exactly the way an obstruction should. Sensor realignment and clearing the threshold are quick. If the door reverses on a clear, dry threshold, that points at the travel limits or a worn part, which is a different conversation.

The door is frozen to the concrete. Can I just force it?

Please do not. Forcing a frozen door is the single most expensive winter mistake we see. The bottom seal is stuck in ice, the opener pulls anyway, and something has to give: the seal tears off, the bottom bracket bends, or a cable jumps its drum. Any of those costs more than the freeze-up did. There is a page on this site explaining how to free it safely.

Do you charge to come out and look?

We give a realistic range on the phone and a firm price on site before any work starts. If you decide not to go ahead, you are not committed to anything you have not agreed to.
